Supported After Effects Features
Not all After Effects features can be converted to Lottie format due to the limitations of the JSON-based animation format. Understanding what's supported helps you design animations that export successfully.
Fully Supported Features
- Shape Layers: Paths, strokes, fills, and basic shape operations
- Transform Properties: Position, scale, rotation, opacity, and anchor point animations
- Masks: Basic mask paths and mask modes
- Solids and Nulls: Solid layers and null objects for parenting
- Trim Paths: Animating the start and end of path strokes
- Time Remapping: Basic time remapping on pre-compositions
Partially Supported Features
- Effects: Only certain effects like fill, stroke, and tint are supported
- Blending Modes: Limited blending mode support (multiply, screen, add)
- Mattes: Track mattes work but may have limitations
- Text: Basic text properties only, with limited font support
Unsupported Features
- 3D Layers: All 3D features including cameras and lights
- Adjustment Layers: Not supported in Lottie format
- Layer Styles: Drop shadows, glows, and other layer styles
- Most Effects: Blur, distortion, and generation effects
- Expressions: Complex expressions are not supported
- Time Stretching: Beyond basic time remapping
