Motion System in Creator

A Motion System is a design system for animation that helps teams define and reuse motion styles like colors, easings, fonts, collections, and presets, so animations stay consistent across projects.

Instead of recreating values each time, you can simply apply approved motion styles directly in Creator.

Where it’s available

Motion Systems are created and managed in the LottieFiles Platform. Once published, they become available in Creator through the Motion System plugin.

Why use it?

Without a Motion System, you often have to re-decide animation settings like colors, easing, or typography for every project.

With a Motion System, you can:

  • Apply approved colors, easings, fonts, and presets directly in Creator
  • Keep animations consistent across your team
  • Reuse existing motion styles instead of recreating them
  • Add new Motion Presets back into your system for others to use

How to use it

1. Connect a Motion System
  • Open the Motion System plugin in Creator
  • If you don’t have any Motion Systems yet, click the + Create System button to create it in the LottieFiles Platform
  • If you already have one, select it from the dropdown

Once selected, its sections (Colors, Easings, Fonts, Assets) will be available in Creator.

2. Apply a color
  • Open the Colors section (e.g. Brand Colors)
  • Select a layer with a fill color
  • Hover over a color swatch and click Apply

If no layer is selected, an info message will prompt you to select one first.

3. Apply easings, fonts, and assets
  • Select the relevant layer in your composition
  • Open the matching section in the plugin
  • Hover and click Apply on the item you want

All sections work the same way.

4. Add a Motion Preset
  • Motion Presets are created in Creator using the Motion Presets plugin
  • After creating one, open the Motion System plugin
  • Add the preset to your Motion System so it can be reused

FAQs

Why can’t I apply a color?
Make sure you have a layer selected with a fill color. Once selected, the Apply option will become available.
Where are Motion Presets created?
Motion Presets are created in Creator using the Motion Presets plugin. They are then added to a Motion System from the Motion System plugin.
What if I don’t have a Motion System?
You can create one from the plugin, which will take you to the LottieFiles Platform.
Can I use more than one Motion System?
You can select one Motion System at a time from the dropdown in the plugin.
Do changes sync everywhere?
Yes. Motion Systems are managed in the Platform, and once updated or published, changes are reflected wherever the system is used. New Motion Presets created in Creator can be added back into the system from the plugin.
